We love all the animals and African experience, but watching the Elliot in the Morning show broadcast live has been hilarious. After listening for more than 10 years, its great seeing it done live.
During the first broadcast, a monkey sneaks in, steals from sugar packets from a table and absconds with them up a tree. After looking at the footage, there is a baby monkey, holding on for dear life on the underbelly of this little thief. The monkey tries to rip open the sugar packets and get to the sweet powder inside.
Here is our photo with Elliot and the class.
Both Maggie and I were on the air a little bit, talking about our shark cage diving experience (I should have a recording available sometime), and the other winners Nicole and Lani were on today. I have video of their bit (as well as Mervis Diamond Importers own Ronnie Mervis stripping layers of clothing in order to be allowed to speak on the air)
All that coming soon.
Enjoy this video of the monkey!
The weather was beautiful this morning, if not a little chilly. We had Elliot and the class on our tour bus this morning and we cruised through the bush, looking for more animals. We were all hoping to see a lion today, but the closest we got was hearing a couple roar. We looked around, but the lions decided to keep hiding.
It’s an awesome sound, and I’ll upload that video later.
We saw two baby rhinos getting into a fight, and we saw lots of herds today, that was cool. And right as we were returning to camp, an elephant came up right on the truck. So close, I couldn’t get all of him in frame with the telephoto lens on.
Though we didn’t see a lion, we did see two zebras in the act of animalistic love. Yes, I did get a few pics.
We have one more game drive tonight, and we’ll probably hop on an optional one Saturday morning before we leave. We’ll see.
To see all of these pics and more, check out Our Third Game Drive Gallery
I’m about to go attend the second live Broadcast of Elliot in the Morning.
I have a funny video uploading right now, I’ll post that in a bit.
We went out on our second Game Drive this afternoon, and though it rained and poured in ways we didn’t know Africa was still capable of, we saw some beautiful sights. You can’t top the sunset we saw today. Impossible.
We are still on the look out for the big cats, but we wrapped up the evening with a barbecue in the middle of the bush, with a nice bonfire. I have to tell you, South African pork (and bacon) is amazing. Is it just regular pig? Is it warthog or something? Amazing. Second game drive pics
We go on two more drives tomorrow.
We had an amazing time on our first Game Drive. We woke up at 4:30 to hop on an open vehicle and head out into the park. Wow, we were told not to expect to see everything on the first ride out, but we came pretty close.
We saw elephants, zebras, impalas, hippos, dung beetles, rhinos, and finally a giraffe… so we’re just now waiting to see some of the big cats (lions, cheetahs, etc)
We are about to go watch Elliot and Class broadcast their thursday morning show, and then we hop into another car and go on our second drive this evening.
I’ve gotten tons of video, I’ll upload a quick preview tonight. First Game Drive Photos (almost 60)
We flew out of Cape Town bright and early, back to Jo’burg (as the locals call it) and then drove out to Pilanesberg National Park to stay at the Bakubung Lodge. As soon as we unpacked, we started down to the dining area and spied our first elephant! Just chilling out, eating a tree. I’m still getting the hang of this telephoto lens, but here are the pics I got. (It was dusk and we were losing sunlight fast)
We also saw 2 warthogs, right up next to the fence. Crazy!
Tomorrow morning is our first game drive, so we’ll be up taking more pics. Then we’re sitting in with Elliot in the Morning (show) on DC101 (click to the right to listen over your computer, or tune in to 101.1FM) between 6-10am (your time). They’ll be talking about the trip, and they’ll have us and the other winners on here and there.
I have a video of the elephant I’m working on uploading. That’ll be up in a little bit.
Gotta charge all my batteries and clean off all my disks.
Later!
On Monday we visited Table Mountain, I finally updated a quick video of the view of Cape Town from Table Mountain.
You can see the photos from the Day 2 gallery that are tagged Table Mountain here. Absolutely gorgeous views.
We visited what could only be described as a tribal buffet, Moyo after the winery tour yesterday.
The dancers pulled DC101′s own Diane up on stage to show em her moves. Here they are, presented in glorious HD
So we got up at 4 and went on a Shark Cage Diving boat. We got to see some amazing sharks. It turns out that I am a land lubber as I got a little sea sick.
After we saw the sharks (who did come pretty close to the boat as you can see) we went and found all the seals. Amazing! Hundreds of seals just chilling out. Check out the pics.
Today was a packed day… first stop wine tasting, then Moyo for lunch, and then Table Mountain (in which we were actually in a cloud).
I’ve uploaded about 150 new pics UPDATE
I’ve created separate albums for each day. So now there is a Day 2 album.
Click here to see all of the albums
For now, I gotta crash, got a super early morning tomorrow (I’ll be up before you guys think about going to bed)
And I shot tons of video today, I can’t edit it at all until I get back home on my mac, so I’ll shoot you another preview soon. Stay tuned.
Scheduled to be live from Africa on Thur and Friday (11/12 - 11/13)
