Listen to me win the trip on the air, as well as our bit where we discuss the Shark Cage diving on the air from the Bakubung Lodge. It also includes recovered footage from the Elephant attack!
Safari Part 1 (7 min)
Here it is, the infamous edited footage I kept talking about. This is my first complete montage. (Be sure to watch in HD!) In this video you will see Baboons, Zebra, Impala, Hippos, and Elephants. Look for the baby elephant getting yelled at by a big elephant, and then running back to his momma.
Safari Part 2 (9 min)
Here is the second half of our Safari footage (be sure to watch in HD!)
Includes the monkey, dung beetle, rhino fight, antelope fight, wildebeast, warthog, and the best lion footage we could muster.

Winning entry video
This is the entry that won the trip, in its entirety.
I’m almost done cataloging and labeling all of my video footage, so I should have some edited masterpieces up soon. In the meantime, enjoy this elephant!
We didn’t get decent pics or video of the Lion, it was very dark when we did see him, but I did get this sweet video of him roaring. It’s pretty amazing that this sound comes from an animal.
As I’m editing all my video into completed vignettes, I’ve been uploading the raw video unedited. This bit has all the sound within the first minute, so you can stop watching after the halfway mark.
Believe it or not, our tour guide’s name was Mohammed Ali. He lived up to his name on the Winery tour. Our bus was blocking the entrance to the road, construction prevented us from pulling out, another car tries to get in, but obviously can’t. After about 5 minutes, the car starts honking and gesturing to our van. Mohammed jumps out, and tells ‘em to Bugger Off. Way to go Mohammed, thanks!
We love all the animals and African experience, but watching the Elliot in the Morning show broadcast live has been hilarious. After listening for more than 10 years, its great seeing it done live.
During the first broadcast, a monkey sneaks in, steals from sugar packets from a table and absconds with them up a tree. After looking at the footage, there is a baby monkey, holding on for dear life on the underbelly of this little thief. The monkey tries to rip open the sugar packets and get to the sweet powder inside.
Here is our photo with Elliot and the class.
Both Maggie and I were on the air a little bit, talking about our shark cage diving experience (I should have a recording available sometime), and the other winners Nicole and Lani were on today. I have video of their bit (as well as Mervis Diamond Importers own Ronnie Mervis stripping layers of clothing in order to be allowed to speak on the air)
All that coming soon.
Enjoy this video of the monkey!
On Monday we visited Table Mountain, I finally updated a quick video of the view of Cape Town from Table Mountain.
You can see the photos from the Day 2 gallery that are tagged Table Mountain here. Absolutely gorgeous views.
We visited what could only be described as a tribal buffet, Moyo after the winery tour yesterday.
The dancers pulled DC101′s own Diane up on stage to show em her moves. Here they are, presented in glorious HD
So we got up at 4 and went on a Shark Cage Diving boat. We got to see some amazing sharks. It turns out that I am a land lubber as I got a little sea sick.
After we saw the sharks (who did come pretty close to the boat as you can see) we went and found all the seals. Amazing! Hundreds of seals just chilling out. Check out the pics.
